Eligibility Criteria

Our Lady of the Southern Cross College (the College) has implemented an eligibility criteria in relation to student involvement in extra-curricular activities.

There are three key areas that need to be met in order for a student to be eligible to participate in the activity. These are outlined in detail below:

     1. Attendance

The College sets expectations around student attendance. Should a student’s attendance rate drop below 85% they are considered ineligible for sporting tours and other extra-curricular activities.

     2. Account Balance

The timely payment of College fees is of high importance to facilitate the ongoing delivery of high-quality education to our students. Our expectation of families at the College are:

  1. Fees are paid in full after the account is received, or;
  2. A payment arrangement is made for regular Direct Debits to the College so that all fees are paid over an agreed period of time, or;
  3. In cases of financial hardship, parents/caregivers arrange a confidential meeting with the Business Manager to discuss a payment plan for the fees.

To be eligible for all extra-curricular experiences, it is a requirement that the balance of the family account be under $800.00 at the time of the activity, including the cost of the activity, or have an approved payment plan in place with a consistent payment history.

Please note, when payment is made to the College, it is applied against the oldest outstanding debt first.

    3. Behaviour

Student behaviour records will be examined prior to students being selected to represent the College in extra-curricular events. Students who do not meet the College’s expectations regarding behavioural choices may be ineligible for inclusion in these events.
If a student has been suspended, there are additional requirements that apply to the student in the upon re-entry which is dependent upon the term of their suspension.

Short term suspension (1-4 days) - 10 days rectification period

  • 10 full school days in attendance following return from the completion of the suspension period before re-engagement in any extra-curricular activities
  • If they are within the 10 full school days following return from a suspension, they will be allowed to attend camp with AP and Principal approval given the curriculum focus of the camps
  • While they are suspended and completing their 10 day rectification period, they will be unable to participate in any aspect of extra-curricular activities. This includes but is not limited to:
    • No involvement in the activity (e.g. running water/backstage)
    • No travelling with the team
    • No participation in training or rehearsals

For carnivals/tours, the student will be ineligible to stay in camp accommodation with the rest of the team and will be ineligible for supervision by staff.

Long term suspension (5-10 days) - 20 days rectification period

  • 20 full school days in attendance following return from the completion of the suspension period before re-engagement in any extra-curricular activities
  • If they are within the 20 full school days following return from a suspension, they will be allowed to attend camp with AP and Principal approval given the curriculum focus of the camps
  • While they are suspended and completing their 20 day attendance period, they will be unable to participate in any extra-curricular activities. This includes:
    • No involvement in the activity (e.g. running water/backstage)
    • No travelling with the team
    • No participation in training or rehearsals
