Reflection
Lord,
May your words be like a lamp that lights my way.
May your love be like a compass that gives me direction.
May your truth be like a signpost bringing clarity.
May your peace be like a measure that guides my decisions.
May your hope be like a flag that declares I walk with you.
May your words be in my mind,
Your love guide my feet,
Your truth be a sign,
Your peace be a measure,
And your hope be a flag,
As I walk close to you at this time.
Amen.

Daniel Morcombe Child Safety – Report
This week, we are continuing to implement the final key message of the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum: report. This means that when children or young people have been in a situation that is unsafe, they are taught to report what has happened to an adult. Even if a child has been able to make themselves safe, it is vital that they still report what has happened. Adults need to know about unsafe situations so that some action can be taken to help the child be safe again or ensure it doesn’t happen again.
Students involved in the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum will be encouraged to make a list of adult safety helpers. These are adults the children and young people nominate whom they can talk to when they are feeling unsafe or have experienced an unsafe situation or feel they are at risk of something that may cause them harm. This list will include a selection of adults who live in and outside the home.
Report also includes telling an adult about unsafe or inappropriate incidents which may occur when children or young people are online. This might occur when surfing the internet or using social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, and can include cyberbullying, viewing or receiving inappropriate images or messages or communicating with unknown contacts.
It is important that the key safety messages of the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum: Recognise, React and Report are reinforced, both at school and home. I encourage you, wherever possible, to talk with your child about safety to help them stay safe now and in the future.
NAPLAN Online – School Readiness Test
In 2020 our Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students will take part in NAPLAN Online rather than in paper version. In preparation for this new form of testing the College is taking a number of steps to prepare our system, staff, students and parents to ensure a smooth transition into this format.
We are considering and planning for three crucial elements:
- Whole-school approaches to the effective use of ICT
- Community engagement with NAPLAN Online resources
- School technical readiness.
In preparation for 2020 NAPLAN Online, we will run two School Readiness Tests (SRT). The aim of these tests is two-fold; students will get to experience the features and skills needed to complete NAPLAN Online and the College gets to test our technical systems and administrative processes to successfully conduct the tests in 2020. Our SRT will be conducted in Week 9 & 10 of this Term with students in Year 2, 4, 6, 8. No data will be collected in these tests and students use code names to login. The experience will be great preparation of what to expect for NAPLAN Online 2020. A letter outlining the details of our SRT will be sent home directly to Year 2, 4, 6, and 8 families.
