Fantastic Start to Term 3

On Monday morning I had the pleasure of visiting all classrooms across the College and cannot express how impressed I was.  I was impressed by the attitude of students and staff, the positivity in classrooms, the focus on learning, the inclusivity, the openness of our staff and their enthusiasm to catch up on the lives of the young people in their care, and the amount of effort staff have invested in their “holidays” to ensure that the learning needs of the children are best addressed for the coming term.

The Wiz

I am eager to see the incredible effort invested by our cast, crew, staff and parents come to fruition next weekend in The Wiz!  The musical preparations are at full speed and we wish all involved all the best in their final preparations over the coming week.  There are still some seats left so get in quick before they are all sold out!

Parents and Friends Association

Our P&F has made significant contributions to our amazing College in the past and recently have made vast contributions to the resources and infrastructure available to our students every day. These contributions allow freedom in the College budget to also implement other initiatives which benefit the children.  At present we have a small, though very dedicated group who form our P&F, though further contribution to the group would mean even more opportunities for our community and students in the future.  Recently we had a small group of P&F volunteers who came along to the College for a working bee who rejuvenated the area between Blue and Orange Block, which is now looking fantastic!

Our College is nothing without our community.  We understand how busy everyone is with work, family and extracurricular activities, though we would greatly value any contribution you could make toward our College be it through supporting classrooms or through volunteering for the P&F.  If there is something you would like to contribute, please give someone from the P&F or me a call or email.  To be a great P&F member, you do not need to even come to the meetings, so all help is greatly appreciated.

In the past 3 years the P&F has installed a significant public announcement and notification system at the College, as well as contributed $200,000 (yes, that’s the correct number of zeros – two hundred thousand dollars) to the infrastructure developments at the College.  This has allowed the implementation of the classroom technology across the College, implementation of Canvas as the central learning management system, one-to-one laptops (very high quality ones) for all students in years 7-9, the 2019/2020 construction of the Middle Years Plaza and the current investigation into a College coach to transport students at a far more affordable price as well as creating a wide array of opportunities for our students to engage in real world learning.

Without this support from our amazing group at the P&F, much of this would simply not be possible. Please consider when and how you may make a contribution that results in better resourcing for the students and community of Our Lady of the Southern Cross College.

Athletics and Grandparents Day – Thursday, 27 June

What an amazing day!  Over 1100 people from our community coming together to enjoy Grandparents Day, U/12 Ball Games, Senior Athletics, All Age Relays, Gillespie Gift and Tresillian Gift and the Athletics presentations.  There was certainly a buzz throughout the array of events and it was fantastic to see so many of our treasured community here.  Thank you to all who attended, as well as to those who made such a day possible!
