Reflection

Last year, the College Community was asked for input via a survey regarding what Learning Dispositions we felt were most important for our students, your children. Learning Dispositions refer to the way in which learners engage in and relate to the learning process.  Our seven focus Learning Dispositions were

  • Persistent
  • Independent
  • Resilient
  • Curious
  • Motivated
  • Optimistic
  • Creative.

These Learning Dispositions also link to the Character Strengths that are focussed on each week in the College diary (Year 5-12).  There is a wealth of information in the diary to stimulate discussion and reflection with your child on their learning and wellbeing and I encourage parents to check these out.  As we enter this busy time of assessment, I encourage you to use these words with your children and talk about how we need these dispositions.

We are gifted by God with our talents and skills, and we then need to use our skills to develop our talents so we can flourish.

"As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another." - 1 Peter 4:10

Father,

Help me see the ways you have uniquely gifted me to serve you and your Kingdom. Thank you for making me just as I am.

Forgive me for the ways I have compared myself and coveted the abilities of others.

I pray that, starting today, I would see the opportunities if front of me to use my gifts and abilities.

In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

FINAL CALL - Intergenerational/Intercultural Wisdom needed

We are planning to start this activity formally next term if you were interested in getting involved please contact us so we can finalize our arrangementsOLSCC are seeking interested persons to be a part of a PRAXIS initiative with Year 9 students, running from Term 2 until the end of the year. The project will involve developing relationships with students, sharing stories, interests and wisdom. Participants will then be interviewed over a series of sessions in order to create films about their life which they will be gifted at the end of the project. Sessions will take place at OLSCC on Wednesdays from 12:30pm – 1:30pm. We hope this project will assist students to learn from other members of the community who have experienced different generations and cultures and strengthen the bonds of our St Joseph’s Parish/OLSCC community.

If interested, please contact Cate Brennan (Cate.Brennan@twb.catholic.edu.au) or Nicholas Blauw (Nicholas.Blauw@twb.catholic.edu.au) or call 0746724111 for more information.
